JEANNE BAUER PAINTS DONNA BEVERLY

This was by far the most difficult challenge for me. I painted this portrait of Donna Beverly for the Different Strokes Blog. (SEE LINK RIGHT) We were paired up to paint each others portrait for our year-end challenge. It was difficult. I tried to be loose, but I painted tight. I tried to be colorful but painted too realistic. In fact, there are 32 better paintings under this one but I just had to add that last touch, which blew it, which led to painting over a little more. Then my husband showed up and said no, she's more zen/sad/meditative and I'd add a little more...mouth/lips/nose were changed at least 20 times. jb

Cooked Pear

First I dropped the pear, then Puppy got it, now the hot lamp lighting the scene is cooking it. Aromatherapy. jb

Off the Trail

Sitting just off the trail up above Salmon Falls almost to the first camp, one can start to survey the Big Sur coastline. jb

Two Pods

I completely lost my loose quick strokes and fell into realism somewhere along the way working on this piece. I was losing the light....note to self: remember not to paint in the glooming. jb

Storm Coming

I walk every day, everywhere and anywhere. There are a thousand different views I want to take in. I need more work on this painting...can I find this same spot again?jb

All at Sea

Living near the sea means fog. The fog plays intimately with the sun leaving behind a sob of light.

Lemons & Limes

I worked on this piece the last day of my workshop with Carol Marine. I wonder if my fellow student buddies are struggling as much as I am with the loose part of loosen up. jb

Spotted Pear

This is a piece I started in my workshop and just finished up. I'm slipping back to my old blend-&-shade, dry-brush style of painting.
Oil is a new medium for me. I'm finding it quite tricky. jb

Precisely Loose

This was completed the fourth day of the workshop. The goal was to paint "precisely loose."
It's a lot harder than I thought.

On the Dunes

Well, I truly have been painting every day since I returned from Carol Marine's workshop in Santa Fe...I've just been painting the same three paintings; getting it, losing it, getting it again, losing it again. I took a walk and painted the dunes at twilight. jb
